 COURSE CODE: TWP 3111

 

COURSE TITLE: WORKSHOP TECHNOLOGY I

 

THEORY

 Introduction to building construction: history of the building construction, definition of masonry, mason and shelter, types of buildings, building team, building components.

  • Tools and equipments used in masonry works: laying tools, straightening tools, cutting and trimming tools, finishing tools, measuring and marking tools, site tools and equipments.
  • Materials used in masonry works
  • Mortar and concrete: Mixing materials; working area; methods of mixing; batching; different mixtures; transporting, placing and compaction of concrete; reinforcement in concrete; casting of concrete
  • Bricks and blocks: Materials used for production; manufacturing and moulding; types of bricks and blocks.
  • Bonding: definition; Bonded wall and unbonded wall; Rules of bonding; Terms of bonding; Brick cutting; Types of bonds; Laying of bricks and blocks;
  • Jointing and pointing: definition; Types of jointing and pointing, Defects in pointing.
  • Wall thickness: Half brick wall; Brick wall; One and half brick wall; Two brick wall.

    • Tools and equipments manipulation
    • Set up the mortar mixing area
    • Hand cement mortar and concrete mixing
    • Cement brick making
    • Stretcher bond in half brick wall
    • Header bond in straight wall
    • Header bond in right angle wall
    • Block bond in right angle wall
    • Block bond in Cross junction wall
    • Mix bond in right angle wall
    • Different wall thickness in various types of bonds

We offer also guidance to student in the final year for practical implementation of their projects.

CONSULTANCY AND SERVICES:
