The
visit of the World Bank Senior Vice President, External Affairs, Communications
and UN Affairs, Mr. Marwan Muasher to KIST on Wednesday 20th May, 2009.

| At KIST, Marwan Muasher was received by the Rector, Prof. Abraham
Atta Ogwu, the Vice-Rector in charge of Finance and administration,
Mr. Gatabazi Thomas, Directors, Deans, Heads of department and Students
representative.
In his welcome message, Prof. Ogwu thanked Mr. Marwan
Muasher for his interest in visiting KIST. The discussion
held was based on the role of technology/ information
technology in the economy of RWANDA, and in communicating
economic reform.
Mr. Marwan Muasher said that Information Technology
has a big impact on economic development. “IT
allows for good economic opportunities and towards the
country’s development in areas such as connectivity,
education, dissemination of information and others”,
he added.

| There after Mr. Marwan Muasher was taken around KIST where
he visited different KIST facilities like cottage Industry,
ICT centre, RITC and KIST IV Laboratories. He was impressed
by the current achievements made by KIST and added that the
institute has a lot to contribute towards the development of
Rwanda.
Marwan Muasher, a Jordanian national, joined the World Bank from his most
recent position at the Senate of Jordan. Marwan began his career as a columnist
for the Jordan Times. From 1985 to 1990, he served at the Ministry of Planning
in charge of development strategies and later as press advisor to the Prime
Minister. He subsequently served as Director for the Jordan Information
Bureau in Washington, building understanding and support in Congress, the
press and civil society. In 1995, he opened Jordan’s first embassy
in Israel and in 1996 became Minister of Information and the government’s
spokesman to the US.
He was appointed Senior Vice President, External Affairs, Communications
and UN Affairs in December 2006 |
