Lord Sainsbury visits KIST on 9th May, 2009

Lord Sainsbury, Former Minister of Science in United Kingdom (UK) visited KIST on 9th May, 2009. Lord Sainsbury was in Rwanda for an official visit with the Tony Blair team.

At KIST, Lord Sainsbury was received by the Rector, Prof. Abraham Atta Ogwu and the Vice-Rector in charge of Finance and administration, Mr. Gatabazi Thomas. In his welcome message, Prof. Ogwu thanked the Lord Sainsbury for having graced KIST with his timely visit.

After their discussion, the Lord Sainsbury was taken around KIST where he visited different KIST facilities like the cottage Industry, ICT centre and RITC. Lord Sainsbury was impressed by the current achievements made by KIST. He said that KIST has great opportunity to contribute to the economic development of Rwanda.

He was made a life peer as Baron Sainsbury of Turville, of Turville in the County of Buckinghamshire in 1997. From July 1998 to November 2006 he held the post of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Trade and Industry with responsibility for Science and Innovation in the House of Lords.
