Admission Criteria
The general admission guidelines for postgraduate degree programmes and Doctor of Philosophy offered at KIST are the following:
Master Degree of Research: Applicants should have a minimum of Upper Second Class Honours Degree in the relevant discipline from KIST or equivalent qualification from Higher Learning Institution recognised by Rwanda Higher Education Council.
Professional or Vocational Masters Degree: Applicants should have at least Bachelor’s Degree from KIST or equivalent qualification from Higher Learning Institution recognised by Rwanda Higher Education Council.
Doctor of Philosophy Degree: The applicants for this level shall hold a Master’s Degree from KIST or from Higher Learning Institution recognised by Rwanda Higher Education Council. In addition the candidate should submit a research proposal showing that they are capable of carrying out original research.
Duration and Mode of Studies
Professional or Vocational Masters Degree: These are 12 months programs involving coursework followed by examinations, and then thesis research.
Master Degree of Research: These Programs will last for 24 months and they are pursued through research only followed by writing of a thesis.
Doctor of Philosophy Degree: The duration of each program is three years for full-time candidates and five years for part-time candidates.
