The Department of Construction management started in 2010 and offers the B.Sc. honours degree in Construction management (that is, Quantity Surveying). The program is aimed at training professional Quantity Surveyors’ in a bid to bridge the existing gap in the built environment in Rwanda. It is envisaged that, trained professionals in this field would add to the vibrancy of the construction sector which is an important ingredient for the realisation of vision 2020.
The specific objective of the Programme is to train professionals who can meet the needs of stakeholders especially with regard to cost, quality, delivery and time management of projects. The programme delivery encompasses a delicate combination of theory, practicals and field training as a means of producing an informed and competent Quantity Surveyor.
The graduates of the Programme are expected to work either in the public sector, Government ministries, local governments, parastatals, etc or in the private sector with private construction companies, consultancy firms, insurance companies, banks and other financial institutions. The training is tailored to equip students with a good foundation for further studies in a wide array of disciplines as well as ‘hands-on’ and creative skills needed for self-employment.
Admission requirements:
To qualify for Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, the candidate needs the following subject combination:
- Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics
- Mathematics-Physics-Geography
- Physics-Economics-Mathematics
- Relevant technical courses (ETOs)
