Estimated project cost & financing plan

The finance for the project is to be sought from the Government of Rwanda and various donors through fundraising activities to enable KIST to improve the boarding facilities of its female students through the construction of a female students’ hostel. The total capital outlay for completion of the project is estimated at USD 1,065,600 as shown below:

Construction:

- 3 floors

- 200sq.m per floor

- 48 rooms per floor

- 4 students per room = 192 students per floor

- 576 students in total for 3 floors

- 3 floors = 600sq.m @ 600$ per sq.m

- 600sq.m X 20% for circulation space = 720 sq.m

- 720sq.m x 1000$ per sq.m = 720,000 USD (1)

- 720,000 x 600 = 432,000,000 FRW (1)

Equipment

Two double-decker beds per room at a cost of USD 200 each: 200$ x 2 x 144 = 57,600$

4 mattresses per room at an estimated cost of USD 100 per piece: 100$ x 4 x 144 = 57,600$

2 built-in wardrobes per room at USD 300 each: 300$ x 4 x 144 = 172,800$

2 reading tables per room at approximately USD 100 per piece: 100$ x 2 x 144 = 28,800$

4chairs per room at approximately USD 50 per piece: 50$ x 4 x 144 = 28,800$

Total cost for equipment = 345,600$ (1)

345,600$ x 600 = 207,360,000 Rwf (2)

Grand total (1) + (2) = 1,065,600 $ = 639,360,000 FRW.

Low cost term

· Floor screed, plywood ceilings

· Hydra foam bricks (no plaster, no paint)

· Local tiles/GCI sheets roof

· Ceramic tiles in wet areas

· Basic external works; boundary wall etc.
