DIRECTORATE OF CONTINUOUS TRAINING (DCT)

The Directorate of Continuous Training (DCT) was established in September 2006 to replace the then Center for Continuous Education (CCE), with a mandate to train and develop KIST staff as a continuous process, raising the level of professionalism as well as technical competence for increased efficiency in KIST operations.

The Directorate oversees specifically the area of staff training for especially Masters Degrees and PhDs outside and inside the country in liaison with SFAR, the student financing agency for Rwanda. The Directorate also supports on-job staff training on refresher courses, workshops and seminars to boost staff capacity.

Besides the above responsibilities the Directorate supports training in liaison with other departments to offer corporate and professional courses to the rest of the public in areas of their interest. KIST offer tailor-made courses to organizations, institutions, and NGOs in areas of ICT/IT, Engineering, Science and Technology. Other courses are in the areas of English, French and soon Chinese classes for organizations that wish their staff to improve their fluency and proficiency in the above languages. A summary of the short courses and their cost will be elaborated below.

KIST broadly is mandated to impact the community through different programs offered by its Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT). This is done in collaboration with the Directorate of Continuous Training to find solutions to local needs. CITT is involved in finding local solutions to local problems through research and innovations. CITT creates prototypes that may be used for scale up production. The major areas include biogas construction, water harvesting, sanitation, community cook-stoves which have helped reduce pressure on the cutting down of wood, among other areas. The center (CITT) is also engaged in Training communities and NGOs for a sustainable development of these skills to communities.

For individuals, institutions, organizations wishing to take up a course or training within their vision, KIST through its Directorate for Continuous Training will hold your hand towards achieving those objectives, set goals and vision. The Directorate’s doors are open to discussion, offering free advice and technical support.

Below is a summary of some of the ICT short courses offered at KIST. For more information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the Directorate of Continuous Training or directly the service department.
