Institute Quality Assurance and Enhancement Committee(QAEC)
A Standing Committee of Senate, meeting monthly, with the
following membership.
- Chairperson: Vice Rector Academic
- Secretariat: Director of Quality Assurance
- Secretary Co-ordinator, Quality Assurance
- Departmental Quality assurance Co-ordinators
- Dean of Students
- Registrar
- One senior member of staff academic staff from each faculty
approved by the faculty board
- Faculty QAE Coordinators (Vice Deans quality)
- One student (KISTAS)
Faculty Quality Assurance and Enhancement Committee (FQAEC)
Membership:
- Secretary : Administrative Assistant
- Members : Departmental QAE Co-ordinators
The Faculty QAE committees will report to the Quality Assurance
Committee
Faculty Responsibility;
The Dean is responsible for the management of academic quality
assurance and will be assisted in this task by a Vice Dean
Quality and departmental coordinators. The Vice Dean Quality
of each Faculty reporting to the Dean will be the Faculty
Quality Assurance Coordinator.
The Vice Dean will be responsible for:
- Chairing the Faculty Quality Assurance Committee
- Representing the Faculty on the University Quality Assurance
Committee
- Overseeing the implementation of the University Quality
Assurance Policy in the faculty and specifically:
- To ensure that systems are in place for the validation
and review of programmes
- The appointment, briefing and of oversight of all other
arrangements for external examining
- The oversee the annual monitoring and review of programmes
and the development of action plans arising from the review
- To prepare a co-ordinated faculty quality assurance
improvement plan based on the annual reports and plans
produced by each programme team
- To ensure that there are systems in place for the collection
and analysis of student evaluation of programmes and courses
- Ensure there are systems in place for the assessment
of students including the production of marking schemes,
examination papers and the internal moderation of examination
scripts
- Identify the training needs of staff in the faculty
with respect to QAE
- Ensuring that staff engage in development activities
related to teaching and learning
- Advise the director of Quality as necessary
- Such other appropriate duties as allocated by the Dean.
At Departmental Levels
Each Department will nominate a senior member
of academic staff to be the departmental co-ordinator.
- The Departmental Co-ordinator will report to the
Vice-Dean for the co-ordination of the implementation
of the University Quality Assurance Policy in the Department.
The Directorate of Quality Personnel
Director
- Responsible for the overall managerial oversight of academic
quality assurance and enhancement for the whole Institute.
- Be in charge of the overall coordination of internal
and external QAE activities. Research, manage and oversee
formulation and implementation of policies, practices, and
procedures at the Institute.
- Advise the Institute on all matters and/or activities
related to QAE in higher education.
The Director of QAE reports to the Vice Rector Academic
Principal Administrator Quality
- Assist the Director in the day-to-day activities relating
to the office.
- Establish systems to ensure the implementation of the
QAE.
- To be responsible for ensuring that all papers are prepared
for the University Quality Assurance Committee
- To prepare an Annual Report summarizing external examiner
comments for consideration by the University Quality Assurance
Committee
- To prepare an Annual Report summarizing the quality enhancement
recommendations from the Faculty Reports for consideration
by the University Quality committee
- To ensure that all programmes are validated before first
presentation and are reviewed on a regular basis.
- To devise a programme of workshops for staff development
in relation to QAE
- To attend examination boards
- To attend programme validation and review events
- To advice Faculty Quality assurance Committees, Examination
Boards, Programme Validation and Review Boards on University
policies and procedures as necessary
- To act as necessary for the Director of Quality in her/his
absence
- Such other appropriate duties as allocated by the director
of Quality
Quality Directorate Coordinator,
- Be the communications officer between the Directorate
and the various academic and administrative components of
the Institute
- Assist the Director in bringing KIST up to date on current
trends, events, and activities in Higher Education related
to quality assurance and enhancement.
- Act as secretary to the University Quality Assurance
Committee
- Attend examination boards
- Attend programme validation and review events
- Advice Faculty Quality assurance Committees, Examination
Boards, Programme Validation and Review Boards on University
policies and procedures as necessary.
