KIST Senior Managers attended a Leadership and Management in higher education workshop:

From Thursday the 12th-13th November 2009 KIST Senior Managers (Rector, Vice-Rectors),Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments attended an inclusive and well packaged training workshop at KIST 3 Conference hall ,Muhabura Block.
The training modules included relevant and day to day experiences in the management of Universities and higher education in general with reference to best practices in other leading Universities around the globe.
The topics covered during this workshop included:

1-The role and functions of University Leaders in the 21st Century.
2-Building an effective and integrated University system for effective service delivery
3-The value of interactive active leadership and management
4-Income generation through research
5-Being acquainted with National Procurement procedures (Presented by an RPPA delegate)
6-A Strategic Plan as a tool for effective management in the University setting
7-Strategic thinking and management
8-The University as a Learning Organisation
9-Strategies for Effective Human Resources Management
10-Problem-solving and Conflict Management

The Rector thanked the Vice-Rector (Administration and Finances) for having arranged for the workshop to take place and the Vice-Rector (Academic) for having represented the Rector throughout the workshop. He also thanked participants for their contribution to the smooth running of the workshop.

Finally, the Rector tendered his thanks to the Workshop facilitator Prof. Dr THAKHATHI from the University of Fort Hare, South Africa for his management illumination, which has switched on the light for KIST’s leaders/managers who, having embraced the concepts, will, from now on, be a shining example to their respective staffs in terms of effective and efficient leadership and management.
The awarding of certificates of completion to participants concluded the workshop.
