KIST Senior
Management & Staff fulfilled their pledges to support
the One dollar campaign:
A Meeting was organised within the framework of the activities
of KIST Never Again Committee, and the purpose was to
involve KIST Staff Community in supporting the One dollar
Campaign that is aimed at constructing accommodation facilities
for a part of students who are Genocide orphans and are
homeless more especially during holidays and Semester
breaks.
The Rector in his opening remarks encouraged staff :
• To support a noble cause.
• That positive and good initiatives in supporting those
in need are rewarded by God.
• That People are more glad not by what they do for themselves
but by what they do for others.
• Safety and shelter are among any human being’s
physiological needs.
Dr. Ismael Buchanan presented a documentary film to highlight
to participants some of the major problems that students who
were orphaned by the 1994 genocide are going through.
After the documentary was presented , Participants unanimously
and voluntarily decided to contribute with financial pledges.
• The Rector of KIST Pledged to donate US $ 1000 as a
Personal contribution, and promised to work physically (manual)
for a day on a Saturday when the construction works commence.
• KIST as an Institution handed over a cheque worth Frw
1,000,000 to the Director in charge of the Rwandan Diaspora
Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Mr.
Robert MASOZERA, who also thanked KIST Staff for their compassion
and goodwill in supporting the homeless orphans get a place
to retreat to when in need , he also reminded the attentive
audience that since the plot, plans, authorisation and a good
percentage of the required funds have been secured, construction
works will soon begin .
• All KIST Staff members (Nationals & Expatriates)
Pledged a 2% reduction from their net salaries to support this
initiative.
The total amount that has already been submitted to the one
dollar campaign from KIST is amounting to Frw 3,632,490 (Three
million six hundred thirty two thousands , four hundred and
ninety Rwandan Francs) Plus one thousand US dollars from the
Rector has been submitted to the National Bank of Rwanda and
a note acknowledging receipt of payment has been forwarded to
KIST Management.
